Best Ways to Show Your Employees Appreciation

Giving your employees the right amount of appreciation is so critical to your company’s survival. If you are treating your employees well, the word will get out and people will want to come work for your company. The same is true if you are not great to your employees, people will steer clear of your business and this may leave you scratching your head wondering why you can’t get any applications for different job positions.

Here are 5 things you can do to show your employees that you really do care for their well-being:

Give Them Time Off

Not every company gives employees a lot of time off. Businesses may give them the minimum amount of time off but this eventually leads to burnout and employees who aren’t very happy to be at work.

Giving your employees time to vacation or even giving them the option to work from home shows them that you care about their mental and physical health. Vacations allow your employees to breath and when your employees come back they will be more focused and efficient.

Make Your Rules Make Sense

There are two general approaches to making rules for your company. The first is to make a rule whenever something wrong happens. The second is to make a set of rules for major issues and know how you will handle smaller issues such as communicating with the person or showing them how to improve on something without belittling them.

The first way usually ends up with a bunch of emails being sent out about policy changes and creates a lot of stress on employees because they won’t know what they can and can’t do half of the time. The second is a much healthier approach and allows employees to breath and get their job done without feeling like they are walking on eggshells all of the time.

Perks Should be Worthwhile

If you are going to take the time and effort for perks or awards, make them be amazing and not dumb. Bad ways to do things are to have a culture committee which is in charge of the workplace culture. Point systems generally don’t do too well unless it is a call center of some kind.

What does work are years of service awards and cash prizes. Even a catered event is fun or a company party. Food in the company kitchen is a big perk that goes a long way as well as being able to work remotely.

Treat Them with Respect

The worst thing that could happen to an employee is to work for a company who treats them like they can’t do anything right. This mentality usually leads to micromanaging which doesn’t accomplish anything and puts more stress on the employee.

Show your employees some respect. Don’t micromanage them. Give them benefits and perks. Talk to them like they are an actual person and an equal, not someone who is stupid or doesn’t understand anything.

Understand They are People Too

Your employees are going to have bad days, get stuck in traffic and end up getting sick for multiple days in a row. While you would like them to show up everyday at exactly the right time and always be on task, this just isn’t going to happen, no matter how many rules you put in place.

When you approach your employees and coworkers with empathy and understanding they will be much more appreciated and validated. Allow them to have a life outside of work and understand that they will enjoy work a lot more if they feel like their voices heard.

There are different ways to show employees that you genuinely care for them without being insincere or fake. What are some things you do for your company employees to show them you appreciate them and all of their hard work?
