Five tech innovations to make your home spotless

Remember when you were a kid and you used to imagine what the future might be like? There’d be flying cars, food synthesizers to create delicious hot meals out of thin air and, of course, servant robots to cater to your every whim.

Well, we aren’t quite there yet. But the good news is that home cleaning technology is constantly evolving to make our lives easier – and our homes considerably cleaner. We’ve rounded up five of our favourite gadgets for keeping your house dirt free, so you’ll never have to see housework as a chore again.

  • Vacuum Cleaner

Trying to find an excellent vacuum cleaner is like looking for a needle in a haystack. Thankfully there is plenty of advice online to help you find the best canister vacuum for your needs.

If you suffer from a dust allergy or have a pet that sheds hair, your best option might be a canister vacuum cleaner. It’s ideal for using in-between your regular vacuuming and a canister vacuum, such as the Smart Clean by Bissell, can be programmed to get to work while you’re out, so it won’t get under your feet. And the best bit is, it can reach all the awkward places you can’t (without moving all your furniture, at least!) such as under the bed or behind the sofa. You can use canister vacuum cleaners on all types of flooring – wooden, laminate or carpet – and this particular model takes itself back to its docking station to recharge when it’s finished.

  • Wave a magic wand

With this gizmo, you don’t need to be Harry Potter to cast a little magic around the house. The Cleanwave Sanitizing Wand uses the same UV light technology as hospitals use to sanitize their equipment, and now you can use it in your home. Give it a little wave over any problem areas and you’ll wipe out 99 per cent of bacteria and allergens present. It’s perfect if you have a pet too, as it gets rid of those unpleasant odors.

  • Effort-free window cleaning

Keeping your windows clean requires constant effort. Luckily, you can now buy a gadget to do the hard work for you. The Winbot is a battery-powered, smart device that’ll keep your windows sparkling. It knows what areas of the window it has already covered and also recognises when it reaches the edge of the window frame – so it won’t collide. The added anti-drop function and remote control mean you can sit back, relax and let the Winbot do the hard work for you.

  • Get squeaky clean floors

Take your household cleaning a step further, by investing in a robot that’ll mop your floor for you. Particularly helpful in the kitchen or bathroom, is the iRobot Braava Jet which specialises in cleaning up ‘wet mess’. This clever piece of tech intuitively knows if it needs to use wet, dry or damp cleaning in certain areas and makes use of vibrating heads, a jet spray and cleaning pads to get rid of dirt and grime in the hardest to reach places.

  • Take out the trash

A bin may not be the first thing that springs to mind when you think of household tech, but if you try out the Bruno Smart Can you’ll wonder how you ever lived without it.

The bin boasts a motion sensing lid, which means you don’t have to touch it and risk transferring germs. It also offers an integrated vacuum feature, so you simply have to sweep dirt over to it and it’ll suck up the debris. The Smart Can also come with a handy mobile app to remind you to clean it and also to let you know if it’s running low on bags – which you can order more of via the app itself. You can programme your regular trash collection day into the app too, so you’ll never forget to take out the trash again.

Join the home cleaning technology revolution

So, what’s the best thing about all this new home cleaning technology? It’s completely affordable for the average household. For example – a high end model will set you back quite significantly due to the technology used, but a more basic model is available at just a fraction of the cost. As home cleaning tech becomes more commonplace, prices are being pushed down by market demand. So pretty soon anyone can live in a spotless home, surrounded by their super-efficient servant robots.

New products are coming onto the market all the time, designed to take the effort out of household chores and giving us more time to enjoy the things that really matter. In our busy world, we can use technology to help us keep our lives in balance. As they say – a clean home is a happy home!
