4 Ways You Can Add Visual Interest to Your Videos

Do you like making videos, but are confused why your videos never go viral? There are many reasons a video doesn’t go viral, a common one being that there isn’t enough visual interest. The audience gets bored while watching your video and moves onto a new video. With YouTube, TikTok, and other video platforms churning out millions of videos an hour you have to do something to make your video stand out. The easiest way to do this is by changing how your video looks. Put a rewind clip into your video, use different angles, or change up the editing effects. Anything you can do to make your video stand out will make people want to sit and watch.

Reverse

One of the most unique things you can do to make your video stand out is to create a reverse sequence. You commonly see this in sports or prank videos. If you’re not sure how to reverse a clip in Premiere, you can easily find tutorials online showing you how. By rewinding a sequence and replaying it, you are giving your audience a second chance to see whatever you view as important. If you make prank videos and want your audience to really see the reactions of the people pranked, you can make that the focus by reversing your clip. First, you should play the clip at a normal speed. Then rewind it and play it back. You can do that as many times as you want. You can even slow down the clip while it plays back to make that clip more memorable.

Angles

The next thing you can do to create an interesting video is to change video angles. If you look at most viral videos today there are multiple different angles within the video. Even in makeup tutorials, where you are watching someone sitting in front of the camera, different angles are used during the final reveal. By using different angles, you provide more context for your video. If you create craft or cooking videos, different angles are a must. You really need to have the traditional camera shot, right in front of you, but you also need an overhead shot to show what you’re doing. Only having the camera in front means that your audience can never see how you are viewing the craft or cooking ingredients. Tutorial videos need to allow their audience to see what it should look like from the video maker’s perspective.

Graphics

Something that is gaining popularity is adding in graphics. These could be memes, short videos, or images embedded into your own video. Some of the best reasons to use these graphics are to help give your audience a reference point. If your videos are reviews about different movies or famous people, it could be helpful for you to put up a clip or picture of what you are talking about. That way, if someone starts your video at a random point they can still pick up on and understand what you are talking about.

Effects

Video editing software is important not only because it helps to edit a video, but because it offers tons of different effects you can add. Without effects like transitions or zoom, videos would be boring. One of the most important parts of a video, from a storytelling perspective, is transitions. A good transition will allow your audience to follow your video from point to point, idea to idea. Changing up how you do transitions is also a great way to keep your audience engaged and interested. A common transition in makeup tutorials or clothing reveals is to put a makeup brush or piece of fabric up next to the camera, then take it away to show the reveal. This creates drama and a clear transition from something being in progress to something being completed.

If you want your next video to go viral you have to make sure it is visually interesting. Look at the editing software you have and play with it to create something different and new.
