What Are The Most Common Forms of Poker Games Played Around The World

Poker is one of the most popular games in the world, enjoyed by millions of people. One of the reasons why it’s so popular is that there are loads of different ways to play. Unlike most other casino games, poker has hundreds of different variations with unique rules and features. Because of this, no two games are alike, and players can choose between their favorite types.

If you’re new to poker, you might be wondering which version of the game is best to play. Normally, you can tell simply by looking at the most popular types. Here are the poker games which are most common and the easiest to find when it comes to playing online or in person.

Texas Hold Em

Texas hold em poker is by far the most popular form of the game, and you’ll find it available to play everywhere. When most people think of online poker, they’re thinking of Texas hold em, and it’s become so synonymous with the game that a lot of people think it’s the only way to play.

With this version of poker, each player starts off with two cards which are dealt face down. Players then place bets before the community cards are dealt to the middle of the table. Further betting rounds then ensue, and eventually, players must create the best five-card hand from their pocket cards and the community cards.

In total, there are up to four betting rounds, and players can decide whether to call the bet, raise the bet, or fold. The game requires a lot of strategic thinking and a cool head, and it’s a lot of fun as you’re up against real human opponents.

Omaha Hold Em

Omaha hold em shares a lot of similarities with Texas hold em, although there are some key differences. While there are also pocket cards, community cards, and betting rounds, the way these cards are used makes it a different game.

To start with, all players are dealt four cards at the start of the game, twice as many as with Texas hold em. This creates more opportunities for final hands, although players can still only use two of them to make their hands.

Additionally, the community cards in Omaha hold em are all revealed at once. This gives players a better idea of the hands they can make, meaning there’s a bit less of a gamble when placing bets. Despite this, it’s still a very exciting game to play, and it’s becoming a fun alternative to Texas hold em on a lot of poker sites.

Video Poker

Video poker is very different from the previous two options in that it’s played against a computer rather than real people. This game is played online or using a video poker machine. It looks quite similar to a slot machine, and it functions in a similar way.

When playing video poker, players choose their stake and then press the deal button to receive five cards at random. These cards can be kept or discarded to reveal new ones as players try to create a strong five-card hand. Most video poker machines require you to hit a pair of Jacks or better to land a payout. The better your hand, the bigger your payout.

Video poker is popular because it’s very simple and easy to play. It doesn’t require much learning, but there is still strategy and skill involved. It also offers the chance to win big payouts if you’re lucky enough to land a strong hand like a royal flush.

Three Card Poker

Three card poker is one of the simplest versions of the game and probably where most versions of poker originate from. In this game, players face directly against the dealer rather than human opponents. This makes it ideal for light play and means that it’s less unpredictable.

The game begins with the player receiving three cards, and they can choose to either fold or play. The ante bet is used for each hand, and if you win, you win it back. However, you can also win much bigger payouts by landing higher-ranked hands.
