Sourcing Electric Motor Components in 2022

When it comes to getting your hands on electric motor components, purchasing directly from the manufacturer is often the way to go. This can be done in several ways, including by purchasing in person. If you don’t live near a manufacturer, ordering online is another option to get the motor components you need. In fact, you can partner with a manufacturer like ARC Systems Inc. to purchase brushless motors from a trusted source.



Trade Components Through a Local Club

You could also consider joining an electronics club in your area that networks to discuss hobby projects. Using this network, you may be able to trade components with other tech enthusiasts who may be able to help you find things like small brushless motors, large brushless motors and sensored brushless motors.

Of course, if you’re sourcing custom bldc motor components for use in industrial applications, this isn’t really a viable option. Even if it was, it’s usually best to purchase components from a manufacturer as new if you plan on using DC brushless motors in any type of professional application. If you’re just testing out design ideas, however, swapping spare parts with others can work out well.

Restore Older Components

In some cases, you may be able to restore older components to refresh and revitalize their condition. Doing this may be possible if certain aspects of a component simply need tuning or cleaning. If you choose to go this route, keep in mind that safety is crucial. If a refurbished electric motor component can in any way potentially lead to injury, purchase new instead of taking a risk with your health.

You’re also encouraged to check workplace health and safety laws and guidelines prior to restoring older components. Some industries may have restrictions on what types of electrical components can be restored as opposed to which ones must be new. Most of these restrictions come down to promoting safety through ensuring that all components meet certain quality and performance guidelines. Failing to work within these guidelines can lead to accidents, injuries, fines and fees.

Plan For Shipping Delays

Something else to consider going into 2022 is that global supply lines will likely continue to experience significant disruptions. Most of this has to do with the backlog of orders that were created through 2020 and 2021 due to Covid-19. Virtually every industry has been affected by these problems, so plan accordingly.

In doing so, consider padding projects with enough variance in deadlines to compensate for a week or so. This is all the more important if you’re offering service or manufactured products to customers. You’re not guaranteed to experience a delay in getting a hold of components, but it’s better to plan ahead now rather than find your project falling behind due to delays that could have been planned for.

Work With A Design Firm

If you’re adept at electrical engineering, it may be possible to change your design plans to compensate for missing components or components that aren’t an exact fit. If you aren’t as knowledgeable when it comes to electrical engineering, you might consider partnering with a design firm instead.

Electrical engineers at your firm can take your existing design and potentially rework configurations to produce the same result while working with the components you have access to. This isn’t a guaranteed outcome, but it’s worth a shot if you’re having a hard time finding the right parts. In fact, you may even find that taking this approach opens new doors to more efficient designs, saving you time and money in future endeavors.
