5 Great Reasons to Pursue a Career in Cyber Security

Every computer connected to the internet is vulnerable. Cyber criminals and hackers are becoming more and more sophisticated, making cyber security one of the most important roles in the tech sector. Here are 5 great reasons to pursue a career in cyber security.

Growing industry

Cyber security is a fast-paced and ever-evolving industry. Every business needs to protect its data, and so specialists in this field are highly sought after by companies of all sizes. From small to multi-national, private to public, it’s a service that is needed by most and an industry that you won’t have to worry about becoming obsolete. So long as we have the internet, cyber security specialists will be needed.

Learning never stops

Another plus point is that you will continue to learn new things. Technology is always advancing, and hackers constantly attempting to master new ways to break into systems. These reasons alone make cyber security a role that will require you to always be on top of your game.

The rewards can be big

Skilled and dedicated security specialists are in high demand, and companies will pay a premium for someone who is constantly a step ahead of the organised criminals and hackers. Should a company’s data be obtained, it’s not only their business on the line but the security of their customers.

If you are interested in becoming a cyber security specialist, you will need a degree in computer science or similar, which usually takes around four years to complete. Once you have established the universities you are most interested in, check the university rankings for the UK to establish where they fare in comparison to the rest. It is sometimes the case that the more prestigious the university you attend, the better the job opportunities that come your way.

It doesn’t matter where you live

Another plus about this career is that geography doesn’t matter. It’s not like law where the rules differ depending on where you live or teaching where the curriculum can vary. If, for example, you decide to go and live on the other side of the world, those companies will need their data protected using similar methods to anywhere else.

You will be doing a job you love

If you have a fascination and love for technology and computers, then what better career to have than one which allows you to be around them every day. Many cyber security specialists spent their teenage years writing computer programmes and developing games, so this career choice was very much a natural step.

You might end up working for some pretty cool industries too. Many leading specialists work in very high up government departments, with police, and alongside some of the worlds biggest financial institutions.

Conclusion

If you are looking for a career in a field that you love, which will push you every day to be the best you can be, cyber security might be exactly what you are looking for.
