Ways to Prevent Potential Investors from Feeling Turned Off
Asking potential investors to listen to you and believe in your ideas is a tall order. These are experienced individuals, and they know what they are doing. They are risk-takers, but they are also cautious about their money. You pitch your ideas to them in the hope that they will believe in you and fund your business ideas. It might not happen soon, but you can at least give them a reason to consider your business idea. The only thing to avoid is to make them feel turned off. They might not only reject your ideas for now, but they could even stop considering anything from you in the future.
Do not be arrogant
Your attitude matters when pitching ideas. Yes, you might have excellent views, but you are also going to make them happen. With the right attitude, you can reach your aspirations regarding the business. However, when you are too arrogant, you will not listen to anyone. You will think that only your ideas matter and not those of anyone else. It is not the best way to approach investors. You need to be humble. You can be assertive in presenting, but not in an arrogant way.
When you present to investors, you might feel confident about your work. You need to feel that way because investors will sense if you are not sure about what you are talking about. However, you also need to learn how to accept suggestions. You need to understand that what you present at this stage it is still a rough draft of the final version. You will need to refine the ideas several times before they become acceptable. If you are too proud to accept any suggestions, you cannot expect the investors to work with you. Besides, they would be involved in the business if they provide funding, so you need to be humble.
You might see in movies that some start-up business owners attend a presentation with investors looking like they are about to head out to a grocery store. Despite their appearance, they still receive the funding they deserve. Although it works in some instances, it might not be a good idea. You want the investors to see you as someone with credibility. The way you present yourself through what you wear matters a lot. Sometimes, they cannot get past your looks even if you have something useful to say.
The worst thing that could happen is that you enter the meeting room when you are not ready to present anything at all. You should instead suspend the plans for now until you have enough time to prepare yourself. Apart from your presentation, you also need to consider the equipment that you are going to use. It helps if you invest in an AV media cabinet. Also, check the sound system to ensure that everyone in the room can hear you.
You want to impress potential investors, so it is crucial to put your best foot forward right from the start.
