4 Website Security Tips to Keep Your Site Safe From Hackers

You start your business and get it online. Creating your website. Building a social media presence. Working on online reputation and whatnot!

The myriad of tasks on the desk can get you nuts! And as you are already working your days and nights off for your brand, weak cybersecurity is another concern that can bug you in the back.

Thankfully, it’s not something that can’t be corrected.

Here’s a list of 4 website security tips to save your site from hackers and online attackers.

1. Keep your CMS updated

Almost, 80% of websites hacked by not were running outdated CMS themes or plugins.

By stalling your CMS updates, you may be putting your website at the risk of being hacked, trashed and hijacked by hackers.

So, you see, while it takes no more than five minutes to update your site’s plugins, themes, and other applications, neglecting the same can create loopholes in your website’s security system.

2. Don’t use Nulled Themes or Plugins

Another important thing you need to know is that using nulled themes and plugins on your website can turn fatal for your site’s security.

As these themes and plugins are bought by someone else, there’s a good chance that these might have been adulterated by the original buyer.

For example, there have been a number of cases where a website using a nulled theme granted backdoor access to hackers through the URL:

http://www.example.xyz?backdoor=go

What happens is, this url triggers the backdoor into the WordPress site using a nulled theme, creating an additional administrator account with the following credentials.

Username: backdooradmin

Password: Pa55W0rd

This can easily be done by making a few changes in the functions.php file of the theme.

Sounds daunting, right?

Well, now that you know the probable outcome, make sure you don’t fall for using nulled themes.

3. Don’t use Default Login Details

Another big mistake that webmasters generally make, risking their website’s security is, using default login details.

‘admin’ as username and some random numbers and special characters as password may seem like secure login credentials at first. Turns out, they are not.

So, what you can do is upgrade by simply changing these default login details and using something that only you know of.

Also, make sure that your login username is nowhere displayed on your site. This will just make life easier for hackers trying to get into your site’s backend, as, then they’ll only have to find out the password. And their bots can do it.

4. Install an SSL Certificate

An SSL certificate is crucial for websites that want to be trusted.

What it does is securely bridge the gap between website visitors and your hosting servers. This way the data and details coming from the visitor, reaching the hosting provider are encrypted.

This encryption enables the information to only be accessible by the intended recipient. So, your user data is 100% safe from bots and hackers leaking out the details from your information pipeline.

To install an SSL certificate, you can get in touch with companies like Mi WebDesigns. They’ll easily set you up with a fast loading SSL certificate.
