0Facts of Self Driving Cars you want to know!
While self-driving cars are the future, they’re here today. A major shift in the auto industry is taking place as self-driving, or autonomous, vehicles hit the road across the country.
One source notes that self-driving vehicles could add a whopping $7 trillion to the worldwide economy by 2050. Yes, that’s trillion not billion. Getting closer to home, the autonomous vehicle industry could, by 2050, add up to $2 trillion to the economy in the U.S. Also consider that some experts believe that the technology could, by 2045, save 600,000 lives. The technology is supposed to make us all safer since autonomous vehicles will eliminate driver error.
And then there’s the fact the list of companies currently working on autonomous cars includes a who’s who of the global tech elite as well as some lesser known, yet impressively innovative, smaller companies looking to make their mark in the emerging space that has huge potential.
In fact, Tesla, the popular electric vehicle company, has patented a technology that promises to facilitate greater accuracy with GPS positioning. CEO Elon Musk also recently said that the company’s Autopilot system stands to take a big step towards complete self-driving capability. The Autopilot system, he said, will shortly support roundabouts, traffic lights, and stops.
Of course, there’s no forgetting Google. The company, which has for years been hard at work in the self-driving space, now has a company, Waymo, under its Alphabet corporate umbrella. The company is pushing towards commercializing its technology. Waymo will go big or go home. Judging from Google’s past performance, it will be the former rather than the latter.
Traditional automakers such as Ford Motor, Nissan, General Motors, and others have also decided that the self-driving space isn’t a segment that can be ignored. The movers and shakers of the auto industry don’t want to get left behind in the autonomous vehicle space. So they’re putting the proverbial pedal to the metal in the race to be a leader in the emerging industry.
All of this bodes well for the consumer since it promises to change the way people get from point A to point B… and everywhere in between.
So how much do you know about second-driving cars? The answer is important because, whether you like it or not, autonomous vehicles are not only coming, they’re already here. And you will see more and more of them as the technology gets better and as more companies commercialize their self-driving vehicles.
The autonomous vehicle industry promises to change the world as you know it. Imagine a highway where vehicles go to and fro while the occupants behind the wheels safely check their emails, read books, or do other things that in the here and now could lead to distracted driving tickets by the police. As the technology steadily improves and as self-driving vehicles are rolled out in greater numbers, it will be the end of the world as you know it. And, according to many experts, that’ll make us all safer and dramatically cut down on the number of lives lost.
