0SEO Helps In Building Internet Empires [Infographic]
We all know that the most important thing in running a website is getting as much visitors as possible. In order to do so, webmasters use different strategies and techniques which have the same goal – boosting traffic.
The process of affecting the online visibility of a website in a web search engine’s unpaid results is called search engine optimization (SEO).
It is no wonder why webmasters target the unpaid or organic results. SEOTribunal.com recently did a study that showed people (between 70-80%) tend to open websites which appear the highest in the search results pages while ignoring paid results. In order to have a higher ranking, SEO is a must.
The fact that search traffic converts 10 times higher than the social media on desktop shows how important ranking in Google really is. Thanks to this fact, many brands made their internet empires based on search traffic.
A prime example of such a company is Verizon, the American multinational telecommunications conglomerate. Let’s take a look at how it built its internet empire.
In May 2015, Verizon bought AOL, a web portal and online services provider which is currently marketed by Oath, a subsidiary of Verizon. AOL is the owner of several other companies.
In February 2011, AOL bought The Huffington Post, which was ranked number 1 on the top 15 most popular political sites in 2012. This meant that Verizon automatically became owner of The Huffington Post.
Another company which was acquired by AOL is TechCrunch. The American online publisher of technology industry news was founded in 2005 and was bought by AOL in 2010.
The same year saw AOL buying another big company – About.me. It is a personal web hosting service which was founded in October 2009 by Tony Conrad, Ryan Freitas, and Tim Young.
These are just several of the companies which are now owned by Verizon. It shows that Verizon pulled many smart moves which ultimately made it one of the companies who are currently dominating Google search results.
