Asus Zenfone 5 ZE620KL: Future Winner?

The mid-end smartphone market is heating up as several competing brands release their best products. Samsung started the series of releases with the Samsung A8. Many believed that the release of the A8 was a bit premature, because other brands responded with better specifications and lower prices.

Asus is set to take the mid-end smartphone market by storm with its 2018 Asus Zenfone 5 ZE620KL. The Zenfone 5 name may be a bit confusing, but the phone itself is not to be taken lightly. There are some interesting things that make the Zenfone 5 very appealing as a daily driver.

Good Performance

Asus Zenfone 5 uses the Qualcomm Snapdragon 636, which is one of Qualcomm’s best performing and most efficient processors. The Snapdragon 636 will handle everything you throw at it with ease. The presence of an octa-core Kryo 260 CPU and an Adreno 509 GPU means you can play even the most demanding game and still be able to reply to chats without a problem.

Asus also adds 4GB of RAM as standard, with a variant with 6GB of RAM available as an option. In terms of storage, you get 64GB of internal storage. There is a microSD card slot capable of handling up to 400GB of external storage. Get a card with sufficient speed and you can enjoy good performance even with the external storage.

To top it all off, Asus uses a 6.2-inch screen with 95% DCI-P3 coverage. Expect accurate and vibrant colors from this phone; the screen alone makes this phone perfect for mobile content creators and those who consume a lot of multimedia contents on the go.

Battery to Last

The 3,300 mAh battery in the Asus Zenfone 5 isn’t special. The capacity is good, and you get fast charging to make filling the battery easy and quick. However, you have to consider that the Snapdragon 636 is an extremely efficient processor. The 3,300 mAh battery is actually capable of keeping the phone up throughout the day.

Your usage pattern will affect how long your phone stays on. If you do a lot of heavy gaming, your usage may be limited to around 3 hours of screen-on time. That’s an average of 12 hours of use in most situations.

Go easy on the gaming, and you can extend the screen-on time all the way to 6 to 7 hours. This is all-day battery life, another great feature offered by this phone.

A Complete Package

Asus is never great with smartphone cameras, and their work in the Asus Zenfone 5 reflects the same trend. The two main cameras take stunning pictures even in low light, but don’t expect anything special from them.

The same can be said for the front-facing camera. You can always take a decent photo with it, but decent is about as far as it will go. Top review sites like Bestseekers.com are getting mixed results from the cameras of the Zenfone 5, which is to be expected.

Regardless of the so-so camera performance, the Asus Zenfone 5 ZE620KL is a great all-rounder. If you’re looking for a phone for daily use, this phone is definitely worth considering.
