The Future Trends in VR To Watch Out For

The rapid-pace of digital technological progress is astounding. In just about two decades the hi-tech industry has changed rapidly, and new developments are happening on a daily basis. Virtual Reality is set to be the next big thing in the world of gaming, as software developers look to revamp the industry.

VR in Online Gaming

Even though online gaming is itself relatively new, having only been around since the 1990s and not really taking off until the early 2000s, the industry has seen incredible growth over the years in terms of technological advancement. Newly released games all use cutting-edge software to produce HD graphics, 3D effects, and innovative special features, and now, the online gaming industry is gearing up to offer Virtual Reality gaming on all its platforms.

The realistic effect which VR games offer have become extremely popular among online gamblers, and more and more top online casinos have begun to offer VR games. Leading software developers are competing to produce games which are compatible with VR, and VR gaming looks certain to be the way of the future. Back in February 2017, the leading games producer, NetEnt, pioneered its first VR video slot, Gonzo’s Quest which was an instant hit among online gamers.

VR in Film and other Media

The movie industry has also taken to Virtual Reality. Avid movie watchers have just recently discovered how incredible watching movies in a head-mounted display (HMD) can be. Even HD 50”+ screens with Surround Sound cannot possibly compare to living through the movie. Gone are all the annoying distractions, such as messages, phone calls, background noise etc. instead you can sit in your own virtual theatre and enjoy a truly immersive experience.

Web streaming services are also tapping into the VR phenomenon. Samsung recently produced the Samsung Gear VR which allows users to watch Netflix shows in stunning virtual reality. You can even modify your own downloaded videos using certain programs on your PC to be VR compatible.

VR Technology

If you’re wondering just how VR technology works, then let us explain. The concept is to create a simulated artificial environment which is viewed through specific headgear. The result is a realistic three-dimensional image of an artificial environment with a realistic audio track. The simulated world is  presented to the user in such a way that that it truly feels as though one has stepped out of reality and into the virtual world. The experience one get when they play a game or watch a movie in VR is known as a ‘virtual reality immersion.’

Bottom Line

The use of virtual reality in online gaming and digital media is set to grow over the next decade. Previously, VR was used by military and commercial pilots as part of their training, but the technology has become commercialized and will soon be mainstreamed. Admittedly, there is still a long way to go before VR technology become the industry standard and 2D and 3D gaming will still be the norm for a while. However,  one thing is for certain: VR is the way of the future and online gaming, video gaming, movie and TV streaming will soon be changed dramatically.
