This is why if you want to steer clear of guesswork and quickly figure out what works on Instagram, you should find out who the top influencers and competitors are in your niche with a good spy tool. Then analyze the accounts of these competitors to see what their best performing Instagram videos are.

You can then create similar, but better videos and just watch the engagement roll in.

To get this right, make sure you do extensive research on at least 10 other top accounts.

Make use of all the formats:

One of the great things about Instagram is that there are so many different kinds of video formats. You have reels, in-feed posts, stories, and IGTV videos. Also, avoid creating carousel videos that contain a lot of long videos stringed together. For best results only create in-feed posts with one video that is less than 30 seconds.

If you want to create longer videos, you can use IGTV. Instagram made that network for longer videos and most of the people who visit it want to watch them.

You can also create a short version of this video with good video editing software and publish it as a preview on Instagram. People who watch the short version and want to watch the rest will go to IGTV.

Focus on education:

A common mistake people make on Instagram is only publishing sales videos. You can publish sales videos some of the time, but if you do it always, you will burden your followers with a lot of content they don’t want to see. As a result, they will unfollow you. So, publish more educative videos. They should make up 80% of the content. You can intersperse these posts with promotional videos some of the time.

If you follow this technique the promotional videos will actually perform a lot better as your organic videos will do the hard work of nurturing your followers and gaining their trust.

A technique you can use to increase sales is to include your products as solutions in some of the videos. This way you will educate your audience and sell at the same time.

Another tactic is to tag products in your videos. This way, people can click on the products tagged in the video and directly visit the landing pages instead of checking out the link in the bio.

Optimize for mobile:

Most people use Instagram on their mobile devices as the web version doesn’t have all the features. So, if you want more people to watch our videos you should optimize them for mobile.

And before you publish them watch them on a mobile device to make sure everything is easy to see and hear. Publish it only after the video looks good.

Create thumbnails:

Instagram gives people the option to turn off autoplay. People who do this will see a thumbnail instead of the video playing. So, if you want more views from these people you should optimize your videos for them by adding thumbnails. These should be attractive and persuasive thumbnails that get people to click on the play button. So, spend plenty of time getting the design right.

Make the first few seconds count:

Most people will have autoplay turned on and they will see the first few seconds of the video playing. This is why you should include your best content in this part. If you make a good first impression here, more people will continue watching the rest of the video and follow through on the call to action whether that is to like the video or follow you or buy from you.

Gather feedback:

One of the keys to growing on Instagram is to figure out what your audience likes. So, study your analytics and conduct surveys with Instagram story polls and questions to figure out what your audience wants to see. Then create more of this content.
