Manipulate Time With These Great Strategies

Time management is one of the most important skills to have. It applies everywhere, from work to school and everywhere else. Good time management is the reason why some people seem to do more in a day than others. If you want to join the league of people who are always on top of everything they do, you need to hone your time management skills.

Know How to Set Your Goals

There is no one way to set your goals but the most important thing you can do is to ensure that your goals have a predetermined outcome. This way, you always know what you need to be working on at any one time and what targets you need to hit. When you do this, you will find yourself achieving more in a day than you would if you did not do this.

Reduce Distractions

Distractions can derail your progress and lead to procrastination and time wastage. If you work in an office, you should consider asking the manager to assign you a cubicle where there is less foot traffic. You can also let your coworkers know not to disturb you when you’re working. It is always harder to get back to work after you have been distracted.

Social media and notifications from emails and phone calls are another way that workers are distracted. For this, you can mute your phone and set an assigned time to attend to all notifications. You can also block distracting websites and applications on your computer to better tune your time management.

Map Out Your Time

Time management also requires that you identify areas where you might be wasting time. Use time tracking apps to record everything you do. Some of these apps can also produce reports that you can use to see where you are wasting time. They can also help you set times to check on things like emails, phone calls and messages. Once all this is done, you can create a plan and make the necessary changes that will help you make the most of your time.

Change Your Habits

Most people have bad time-wasting habits that can be changed to better manage time. Such habits include watching online videos, spending too much time on social media or even playing games when they should be working. Start by identifying these habits and after you are done, start by reducing the amount of time you spend on them. Keep reducing this time until you eliminate these bad habits.

Make Appropriate Plans

It is quite common to sit at a desk deciding what you would like to work on first. You might find that a considerable amount of time has passed while you are still deciding. To ensure this does not happen, plan your day. If you can, make plans the previous night or early in the morning.

When making these plans, you can also make a to-do list so you know exactly what needs to be done and what you need to prioritize. These to-do lists can also be lists of goals you need to achieve during the day.

Set Time Limits for Your Tasks

Start by thinking about how much time it would take to complete a task. Then use a stopwatch to time yourself. Once your mind understands that you need to complete a task in a set amount of time, it becomes easy to concentrate and remain focused.

If you find this hard to do, you can always use a reward system. Give yourself a little treat on your break after completing a task. This way you have something to look forward to once you complete the task.

Time management skills can be taught. You just need to change your habits, the way you work and plan your day. Once you have a concrete plan and know what your goals for the day are, it will become easier to concentrate and get more done.

Give the above tips a try and let us know how you get on.
