How Technology Impacts Our Knowledge

We’re living in an era of advanced technological equipment, where every part of our daily life is spent searching the web, checking emails, or chatting with other users on social media. That said, there’s no doubt that technology has created some amazing resources throughout the years, putting everything we need to know right at our fingertips.

With great power, however, comes great responsibility, and users should never forget that. Technology and communication are two things that go hand in hand, especially when it comes to gaining knowledge. This is important because knowledge can help users understand more about their devices and learn how they impact our daily lives.

So, what is knowledge?

According to Fred Nickols, “Knowledge is a fluid of mix framed experience, values, contextual information, and expert insight that provides a framework for evaluating and incorporating new experiences and information.” In other words, knowledge is all around us and can be used to collect data, preserve memories, and protect important information. Technology can be used for all of these things. That’s because the various high-tech devices out there that are used to connect to the internet have changed the way we communicate, study, shop, play, work, and interact with one another.

As the technological world moves forward, so will our dependence on it in our daily lives. Cell phones, computers, laptops, tablets, ovens, and smart refrigerators — we depend on these devices in one way or another. With that in mind, here are four ways technology impacts our daily lives:

Improved Education System

Technology has impacted every part of our lives, and education is no exception. Throughout the years, technology has changed the way students learn in a number of ways. First, technology has allowed students to access information from anywhere –– thanks to the internet. It also allowed students to obtain online books, videos, audio recordings, and images that will empower them and increase their knowledge. Due to this change, online courses are more common now than ever before, and some of them are even free.

That said, modern technology has made learning easier for students. This could be why 89 percent of parents agree that new technology resources are beneficial in educating kids. Also, because technology continues to improve and become more reliable, students are even allowed to use modern technology in the classroom to help them learn more efficiently and effectively. For instance, students can now use their tablets to share things like PowerPoint and images with classmates to support their findings. This makes learning a lot more fun and engaging.

Improved Home Entertainment

In the past, people were limited when it came to home entertainment. However, when cable, satellite TV, and the internet came along, everything changed since more people were able to turn just about anything into smart home entertainment. Additionally, new video game consoles, and faster internet, were also being developed, which added a wider range of home entertainment.

Perhaps one of the biggest changes in the home entertainment industry, however, was the transition from videotapes to DVDs. This allowed manufacturers to step up their home entertainment marketing by putting more information on discs without fear of the tape coming out of the player and getting damaged. Since the DVD disc was smaller, it also meant more data could be stored using a smaller amount of space.

The home entertainment industry experience another changed recently, with the transition from flat screen TVs to LCD ones. Compared to the cutting-edge technology today, the previous television screens were no comparison. They were ineffective and inefficient since they had poor quality. Fortunately, today, we can enjoy different types of home entertainment: from smart televisions to wireless game consoles – like Playstations and Xboxes — to keep us entertained.

Improved Health Industry

The healthcare industry is changing dramatically, and there’s no doubt that technology is the driving force behind it. The vast majority of hospitals today, for example, have begun relying on technology more and more, which has helped reduce the number of mistakes made by a doctor when performing a survey or when diagnosing certain illnesses. The increased amount of information available along with the accessibility is one of the greatest ways technology has changed the healthcare industry for the better. Aside from endless technological devices available throughout hospitals, there are also health apps that give users the opportunity to manage their height, weight, and other health properties at any time. So, it should come to no surprise to hear that the internet is our main source of information, especially when it comes to medical news.

There’s an increasing number of people who use the internet to diagnose certain illnesses themselves. While the diagnoses might not always be right, individuals can have an idea of what their body is going through based off of the symptoms. Users can then find suggested treatments and remedies they see on the web. In the end, technology has left a digital footprint in every industry, and the healthcare industry is no different. With so much information on the web, patients in underdeveloped countries can also benefit from these handheld devices.

Improved Travel

Paperless boarding passes, remote check-ins, GPS, real-time travel news, and a camera to take every step of the way on your journey — technology hasn’t just altered one element of the travel experience; it altered all of them. Since transportation is an important part of our daily lives, technology has continuously been used to make the process much easier. In 1807, the first steamboat was built, shortly after that, the first steam-powered train was in full operation. Then in 1886, the first engine-powered car was designed and created, which was followed by the first controlled flight in the early 1900s.

Cars, trains, boats, planes, and buses have all played a huge part in our daily lives. We depend on them for convenient traveling, and they bring new qualities to our lives. Needless to say, technology has come a long way, making our lives easier in countless ways and making things much more convenient to access. As technology continues to grow and progress, so will our expectations. What’s to come? No one knows, but it will be exciting to see where we end up.
