The Mounting Importance of Mobile Sites in the Modern World

The Internet has very much become a part of our life. It is very difficult to imagine a life without them today. Right from a school going child to an Old man/woman sitting at home after retirement, everybody uses internet in some way or the other. This massive ascendency of the Internet has led to its use in different dimensions.

The era of Smartphone’s and Tablets

Initially, many used internet on the desktop and then as time went on, laptops and palmtops came into the fray. Now with the advent of Smartphone’s, People prefer using the mobile apps and the mobile site. This is mainly because of convenience as it is not possible to carry desktop or other devices everywhere.  Smartphone’s and Tablets have contributed to more Internet usage in the last five years.

A survey reports that more than 50 percentages of them use Internet on mobile phones rather than desktops. Even, Google gives priority to mobile friendly websites for its search results. This is the primary reason why many business organisations have made alterations to their existing websites.

The Connection between mobile sites and Businesses

A large number of institutions and organizations feed their information on websites so that others can view them. Only by this approach they can expand and grow. But if the website is not mobile friendly, then the SERP ratings could suffer and the contents would not be found in the initial pages. This harms the business and its reputation.

Therefore, a proper mobile site has to be in place before loading the content. Only when this basic feature is there, the site will attract traffic. Mobile sites are simple and easy to use as users can access them as per their wish.

Difference between the Mobile Sites and Mobile Apps

A Mobile site is slightly different from a Mobile app. nowadays, mobile apps are available for all purposes such as mobile recharge, Online shopping, travelling and cab booking. But Mobile apps can be downloaded only from authenticated sources like the App Store. In contrast, a mobile site is easy to download and it does not have any restrictions.

Mobile apps need to be updated from, time to time. After each update, the in-built memory of the Smartphone keeps on decreasing. But, that is not the case with Mobile sites. There is no need to update a mobile site and it never eats up the phone’s physical memory.

Besides, Mobile sites attract more traffic than mobile apps. Numerous apps are found in Play Store and it can be a painful task to find the desired one. Whereas, there is no such hindrance in using a Mobile site.

Trends in the UK

Mobile sites are obviously more advantageous than mobile apps as these apps have many limitations. Having said that, a stats claim that more than 55 percentage of users in the UK still use the desktop as their platform to use internet. But the usages of mobile phones and tablets have increased comparatively.

Because of this, many British organizations and firms are in a dilemma whether to focus more on mobile sites or not. However, a senior professor who serves as a Business consultant here, views things differently. He advises the companies in the overseas market to have a serious understanding of this issue.

If the firms in the UK have any dreams of making an impact outside the EU, then mobile sites are really important. Outside the EU, a Country like China uses more than 70 percentage of internet through mobile phones. As the number of people using mobile sites is increasing in the UK, many UK businesses that have an efficient mobile site are starting to see a growth. The situation in the US is almost the same as in the UK.

Procedures to Create a Proper Mobile Site

Creating a mobile friendly site is not a very easy process as some consider it to be. Some factors must be considered before creating a mobile site. They are as follows:

  • A mobile site must attract the user and should be easy to use. In other words, the User must enjoy a good browsing experience.
  • Secondly, the content must be unique. Or else, the Search engine will reject the content by giving some penalties.
  • The design and built of the device has to be taken into account while creating a mobile site. For example, In a Smartphone people use the thumb and their index fingers to type. This is different when desktop is used.
  • Proper experts and analysts have to be consulted before launching a mobile site. Otherwise, it could lead to a messy one which in turn would affect the site’s performance.
  • Adaptive web design has to be used, keeping in mind the width of the device used.

These are some of the procedures that can be adopted to create a standard mobile site.

Why is a Mobile friendly site Advantageous?

All the search engines support mobile friendly sites and they view this as the future. The usage of mobiles and tablets has increased and this will only grow further. Even Smart watches have come into the market and to have a site that is precisely designed for each device is very important.

Since the usage of desktop is not going to increase from now on, it is wise to concentrate on creating an effective mobile friendly site. It helps the business to grow and attract a large traffic to the website. Also the maintenance cost of mobile sites is much lesser when compared to desktop sites. Small businesses can also see profits if they have a good mobile website design.

Most of the mobile sites are search- engine- friendly and by using them customers can easily find the mobile website with the help of the mobile search tools they use. It is highly beneficial to small businesses as they can easily overcome the competition from their competitors. But most of the small business owners do not concentrate on creating a mobile site and forget their importance. In this modern world, customers try to maintain a good rapport with the businesses they are associated with. And a Mobile website serves as a bridge that connects the client and the business.

Demerits of a Mobile site

Screen width of the mobile phone is not bigger like the desktop, so when the user opens the website he/she may not view the entire page as it is not possible with a smart phone. In that scenario, the content has to be catchy and elegant to make sure the reader stays on that page. This is a bit of a disadvantage as it is not possible to satisfy them in all instances. The internet connection is also a bit slower on phones than on the desktop. The user has to cope up with that.

Proper research must be done prior to writing the content. In addition, if the user got information while searching in a desktop, and later returned to continue the same process with the help of mobile phone, then the content may not be available. Then content must be updated from time and time again.

Conclusion

Mobile friendly website is the need of the hour as the number of users using the Smartphone’s and Tablets are on the rise. Many realize the importance of a good mobile site as it is an essential tool for a business to flourish. Nevertheless, to design a likable mobile site, proper understanding and planning is required, which can be quite challenging.
