A Crash Guide on Cloud That Every Business Needs

The contemporary business landscape is highly volatile. Things are changing at a dizzying pace and for a small business; it can be an overwhelming experience trying to catch up. Whether you have digitized your services or not it is important to stay up to date with the latest technologies to increase efficiency.   One of the trends in the business environment today is of course cloud computing.

Studies show that while this technology has been around for some time, most businesses and organizations have not adopted it. The main reason for this is the fact that they don’t understand the whole idea. Whichever kind of business you are running, it is imperative to understand cloud computing. You will be surprised not note that it is not something futuristic but a technology which you are already using.

Cloud Computing in Brief

Assume you have an architecturecompany in New York. A client sends you an email of the home they want to build. Now, that design remains in your emails and you don’t even have to save it on your computer’s and drive. If your client is say in Chicago, you can travel for a meeting and during the discussions, you just have to go online and access the design they sent. This is the easiest description of cloud computing at work.

Cloud computing is the delivery of computing services including storage, databases, servers, networking, software and analytics over the internet as opposed to a physical data center. The cloud in other terms means the internet and in fact, the word is borrowed from early descriptions of the internet in flow charts. In the example above, you are storing your client’s design on the cloud.

In the business aspect, there is no need for a server at your premises or what is referred to as dedicated network attached storage (NAS) hardware. Any service that allows you to access your data or your programs without the need for physical storage is an aspect of the cloud.

Some examples of cloud services that you use every day include streaming audio and video, hosting websites and blogs, creating new apps and services and analysis of data for patterns and predictions among many other services.

There are different types of cloud services including Infrastructure-as-a-service (IaaS), Platform-as-a-service (PaaS), and Software-as-a-service (SaaS) among others. There are also different ways of deploying your cloud service including public clouds (everything is owned and managed by the cloud provider), private cloud (services and infrastructures run on a private network) and hybrid clouds (combine public and private clouds).

Why Move to the Cloud

Away from the technical aspects of the cloud, there are many reasons to go for cloud services New York. These include cost-savings because you eliminate all costs associated with a data center, more scalability, higher performance and productivity, enhanced security, improved collaboration within teams, increased mobility, always-on availability, fresh software always and many others. To leverage these benefits, you have to work with a reliable cloud service provider with a good reputation and a solid track record.
