Our favorite new features of iOS 11

With the new iPhone 8 just around the corner, iOS 11 has finally been released in public beta for technology fans and critics alike to test out the latest features and get a head start on the official September release. But what new features should you be looking forward to?

1. Revamped Control Center

Control Center is one of the most useful parts of the iPhone, but there were certainly improvements to be made after Apple overhauled the system in iOS 10. Luckily, iOS 11 brings all of those changes and more, making it easier than ever to customize and change up your controls. If you want to add a flashlight and a timer to your control center, for example, you can, while you can also remove things like camera toggles, calculators, and screen mirroring if you want to keep your center small. It’s a handy change that will undoubtedly change the way we use our phones on a day-to-day basis.

2. Easier screenshots and video recording

It’s always been easy to take a screenshot on iOS, but recording is a whole different kettle of fish. Now, whenever you take a screenshot on your device, you’ll be able to edit the image before sharing it with your friends and family – you can add text, resize and even draw on the screenshot. Video recording is also a new option, perfect for those who want to send their loved ones tutorials on how to use the mobile operating system.

3. App Store redesign

The App Store used to be one of our favorite places to hang out on iOS, but as we use fewer and fewer apps nowadays, it’s a section of our phones we no longer frequent as often. However, Apple is hoping to reverse this with iOS 11, bringing with it a brand new App Store that features attractive card discovery, a new games tab, and easy-to-use search.

4. Storage management

If you’re using a 16GB iPhone, you’ll know how painful it can be to manage your storage and keep your phone running smoothly. iOS 11 is about to change everything, with an attractive new design for its storage management. You’ll be able to delete old pictures and messages that you’re no longer using, find out how much free space you have and delete caches and apps from your device to give you more room for your photos and games. Sounds good!

5. Safer driving

One of the most talked about features of iOS 11 is Do Not Disturb While Driving. Now, when you’re driving and connect your iPhone to CarPlay or Bluetooth, you’ll effectively “lock” your device from being used. Notifications will be hidden until you stop your car, reducing the number of distractions you have to contend with while you’re at the wheel. Handy!
