The Best Unlocked Phones on the Market

A locked phone is one in which the supplier has ‘locked’ it so that you can’t use another SIM card from another supplier within the phone. This is a pain if you ever want to get a cheaper deal, but continue using the same handset, or if you want to avoid the roaming charges. If you have a locked phone and want it unlocked, you either have to go to the supplier and pay them to unlock it (which can take a month) or go to Unlocking Smart who will be able to do it quicker and cheaper. There’s also the third option: buy an unlocked phone. Below are some of the best phones on the market that can be bought unlocked (check Amazon, Ebay, and the Google Store for the last one).

Apple iPhone 6s

I’d thought I’d start with the big one, the famous one, the cool one. If you like Apple, then you probably already have the 6s, but if you haven’t then you can’t go far wrong. Apple products are reliable and easy to use, plus if they break down there’s always a handy Apple store nearby where you can take it to get repairs. Because it runs of iOS 9, you can get all the latest apps and games, which invariably turn out better than their Android counterparts. Now for some techy stats:

  • Processor Speed: 1.84 GHz
  • Screen: 4.7 inches
  • Screen Resolution: 1,334 x 750 pixels
  • Camera Resolution: 12 megapixels (rear)

Google Nexus 6P

I’d forgive you for not having heard of the Nexus; however you should really consider one for your next phone. The phone runs off the latest Android operating system and is pretty much superior to the iPhone in every single way. Plus, if you buy the Google product, you won’t be contributing to the complete global takeover currently being orchestrated by Apple. Here are the specs:

  • Processor Speed: 2.00 GHz
  • Screen: 5.7 inches
  • Screen Resolution: 2,560 x 1,440 pixels
  • Camera Resolution: 12.3 megapixels (rear)

When you combine their stats like that, the Apple product seems like something from the 80s. PC Mag did some comparisons of the two phones and found that the Apple 6s will last for 4 hours 21 minutes whilst streaming a video, which sounds okay, if you ask me, however the Nexus will last for 9 hours 59 minutes. You could watch the entire un-extended Lord of the Rings trilogy on that!

Sony Xperia Z5 Compact

Sony has become more viable in recent years as a direct competitor to Apple and Samsung, and their Xperia range is a great starting place. This Z5 compact also boasts some brilliant stats and also beats the iPhone in almost every way:

  • Processor Speed: 2.00 GHz
  • Screen: 4.6 inches
  • Screen Resolution: 1,280 x 720 pixels
  • Camera Resolution: 23 megapixels (rear)!!!
  • Battery when Streaming: 6 hours and 4 minutes.

Well it would seem that the age of Apple might just be coming to an end. They need to seriously up their game if they want to stay the major player in mobile phone handsets.
