Many of us have had that moment when all of a sudden, our laptop or computer sends up a warning signal: Storage is full, and the device is no longer able to save any documents. It can be a scary time, especially if you have something very valuable that you haven’t saved, and you aren’t sure what to do. But there’s a simple piece of technology that can help you access more storage and keep your worries at bay: an external hard drive.

An external hard drive is just something that you’re able to plug into your computer — no internet connection needed — and transfer files. You can then access those files from any other computer, as long as you can plug in the device.
