How Do Electric Toothbrushes Work?

Electric toothbrushes are by far one of the best at-home dental care methods that you can use. They have been shown to remove more plaque than standard toothbrushes, they can naturally help whiten your teeth, and help stimulate your gums to keep them healthy. As a bonus, most come with a timer to help you keep track of whether you have brushed for the right amount of time.

But how do they work and what is it that makes them so effective?

What makes them run?

Electric toothbrushes have a few different ways of moving. Some heads go back and forth at high speeds, others have spinning bristles, and there are even toothbrushes that just vibrate. Regardless of the movement itself, toothbrushes move with a circuit and a gear on the inside that powers up the mechanism within the brush. Most electric toothbrushes also have a rechargeable battery as well.

Better Plaque Removal

Electric toothbrushes are more effective than manual toothbrushes, because they are more effective at removing plaque than manual brushes are. This is because electric toothbrushes move in so many directions and at such high speeds that they can get plaque out of spots that you might never be able to do on your own. The oscillating brushes do this through spinning and the brushes that move side to side at high speeds will do the same. Both are also gentler than trying to do the same level of cleaning with a manual brush. It is also widely recommended by orthodontists for patients with invisalign attachments as it provides better cleaning compared to a manual toothbrush.

Tooth Whitening

The reason that electric toothbrushes help to naturally whiten your teeth is that the speed and movement of the bristles will naturally remove any surface stains gently. This is a better method of removing stains suggested by the team of orthodontist in San Jose, also it is better than trying to do it by force or with the more abrasive tooth whitening solutions. They will not, however, remove stains that go deeper than the enamel or if your tooth has become discoloured from other means. This is better for coffee, wine, or food stains that might be making your teeth look dingy.

Gum Stimulation

The vibrations that come off of the toothbrush also will help stimulate the blood flow to your gums. This can help you treat or prevent gum disease by removing the bacteria that is in your gums before it causes more problems. Your gums are the foundation to your teeth. If your gums are not healthy, then your teeth will not be secure in your mouth. Electric toothbrushes are a great way to keep the bacteria out of your gums and help keep them healthy.

Timer

It is recommended by dentists everywhere that you brush your teeth for two minutes twice a day, but without timing yourself, it is hard to know that you have met that time. Thankfully, most electric toothbrushes have built-in timers, which will also help your overall oral health in the long run.

Which Kind is Better?

There is a lot of data that says that electric toothbrushes are superior to manual toothbrushes, but you might be wondering which type of electric toothbrush is better than others. In truth, your dentist is just going to be happy to know that you are using an electric toothbrush at home. This will give you better oral health and make their jobs much easier. Remember that you will still need to change out the brush heads every three months and that electric toothbrushes do not negate the need to floss your teeth. It is important to your overall health to keep up with good oral hygiene.
