Google’s Cardboard project has become a hit because it brings immersive VR experience at a very affordable cost. However, a VR headset will vary in features and quality according to its price, making the better quality VR kits like the Galaxy Gear VR very expensive.
A Chinese kickstarter project, which goes with the name of SnailVR, aims to change that. Their first batch of sales started in March 2015, in which they are selling their first VR headset, named the SVR Glass. While the Galaxy Gear VR sells for $199, the SVR Glass is sold for a mere $50. The build quality isn’t as polished as the Galaxy Gear VR; however, it does what the Gear VR would do and supports a wider range of phones (Android and iOS), precisely any phone with a size between 4.7 to 6 inches.
Moreover the key highlights of this VR headset is that it allows adjustments for myopia, which means your short-sighted friends can use it, and the IPD (inter-pupillary distance) can be adjusted from the software, plus a 96-degree viewing angle.
The VR headset doesn’t require a magnetic sensor or button to work either. All one needs to do is download the VR app on the smartphone, pair the smartphone with the bluetooth remote and put it in the VR kit and one is good to go. The app lets one configure the VR, play videos and has some VR samples.
