NCXHost: Assam’s First Public Data Center – Built by Locals, For The World

Is There Any Data Center in Assam?

Assam is embracing the digital age, but for years, one question loomed large: Is there any public data center in Assam?

Until recently, the answer was a frustrating “No“.

In this article, we’ll not only look at Assam’s data center landscape but also share the deeply personal story of two Assamese techies—Biplab Das and Sunit Kumar Nandi—who dared to dream and built Assam’s first indigenous, public data center, NCXHost.

A Look at Assam’s Existing Data Centers

1. Assam State Data Centre (SDC)

  • Purpose: Exclusively for government use
  • Managed by: Assam Government & AMTRON
  • Public Access: ❌ Not available
  • Usage: Government websites, e-Governance applications

2. AMTRON Data Center

  • Purpose: Government infrastructure
  • Managed by: AMTRON (Assam Electronics Development Corporation Ltd)
  • Public Access: ❌ Restricted to state projects
  • Usage: Secure backend for government services

3. Control S Data Center (Private Entity)

  • Origin: Hyderabad-based company
  • Presence in Assam: Guwahati (around 1000 rack spaces)
  • Public Access: Available
  • Limitation: Primary infrastructure and operations based outside Assam

The NCXHost Story: From Frustration to Foundation

A Seed Planted in 2019

Back in 2019, Biplab Das—an Assamese engineer working remotely as a Technical Support Engineer for a European Internet Security company—also ran a small web hosting business as a reseller. He used to purchase hosting infrastructure from large external data centers and resell.

During that time, he was looking to host a DNS server locally in Assam, but after researching his options, he discovered the hard truth—there were no local data centers offering public rack space.

Frustrated yet determined, he registered the domain NCXHost.com, thinking, “Someday, I’ll start another hosting company.”

A Chance Discussion That Sparked a Vision

Years later, in 2022, Biplab joined the I.T. firm Techno FAQ Digital Media, founded by his longtime friend Sunit Kumar Nandi, after resigning from the European firm. At that time, he still had no intention of starting a data center.

One quiet evening, during a casual conversation about tech, Biplab shared his story from 2019—his need for rack space in Assam and the disappointment of not finding any.

That moment turned out to be pivotal.

Inspired by the story and its lingering relevance, Biplab proposed an idea to Sunit: “Why don’t we build a public data center here in Assam?”

Sunit agreed wholeheartedly.

Biplab remembered the unused domain he had secured years earlier—NCXHost.com. The name clicked instantly, and together they decided: this will be the brand that powers Assam’s first indigenous data center.

That evening marked the birth of NCXHost—a dream forged from frustration, turned into a mission.

Why NCXHost is Different — and Why It Matters

100% Homegrown, 100% Assamese

This isn’t a branch office. This isn’t a leased server space. NCXHost is fully founded, built, and operated by professionals who were born in Assam, live in Assam, and dream for Assam.

Open to All: Businesses, Developers, and Startups

Other data centers in the state exist solely for government or partial external use. NCXHost is Assam’s first public data center, offering:

Keeping Data in the Northeast

Why send your data all the way to Delhi, Mumbai, or Bangalore? NCXHost reduces latency, increases reliability, and keeps data close to its users in the Northeast.

Enterprise-Grade Performance

With advanced GPU hosting, secure infrastructure, and scalable architecture, NCXHost competes with national-level providers—without leaving Assam.

Supporting the Region’s Digital Future

NCXHost is more than a data center. It’s a spark for the next digital revolution in the Northeast:

Taking India Closer to Southeast Asia

Guwahati isn’t just Assam’s tech capital — it’s also the gateway to Southeast Asia.

Thanks to its geographic proximity, NCXHost enables faster connectivity and ultra-low latency not just across Northeast India, but also to neighboring countries like:

  • Bangladesh
  • Myanmar
  • Cambodia
  • Thailand
  • Laos
  • Malaysia

In many cases, clients in these regions experience better response times with NCXHost than with traditional data centers in Singapore, Hong Kong, or Japan.

It’s so seamless, users from Bangladesh, Myanmar, or Cambodia often don’t even realize their VPN is connected to a foreign data center — because the speed and performance feel entirely local.

With NCXHost, India isn’t just serving itself — it’s quietly powering digital infrastructure across Southeast Asia.

A Heartfelt Mission, Not Just a Business

“NCXHost was born out of a simple frustration—but it became a mission. We didn’t want the next generation of developers and businesses in Assam to feel like we did—unsupported, overlooked, or forced to rely on metros far away. This is for Assam. This is for all of us.”
Biplab Das, Co-founder, NCXHost

“We’re building something meaningful—not just in tech, but in mindset. NCXHost is a message that we in Assam can dream big, build locally, and still serve globally.”
Sunit Kumar Nandi, Co-founder, NCXHost
