The Jaguar XE is the most anticipated 2016 launch in India. The Jaguar XE is an entry level sports saloon ready for launching in the European markets. The Jaguar Land Rover Limited a subsidiary of the Indian Tata Motors Limited wants to launch the car in the Indian markets too as a real contender at the entry level is missing from their armour. The production model of the XE has already been unveiled during the 2014 Paris auto show. The car is expected to be launched in the European markets shortly.
Variants
In UK the XE will be launched in 1 petrol and 3 diesel versions. All the variants will have automatic transmission. But for India there will be manual models of the XE also. There will be all-wheel drive models to compete with the German cars. The price range expected is Rupees 25 to 35 lakh.
Design
The body of the XE will be stylish and attractive with all major family cues going in to the design of the car. The production model has a front grille resembling XJ model and a long bonnet and gills resembling the F-Type. The sporty exterior will have a sloping roof line, well designed alloy wheels and a lip on the tail gate. The aluminium chassis will have steel parts only at the rear to balance the weight of the engine.
Features
The Jaguar XE 2016 will have many high-tech features like central display with gear shift indications, cruise control, keyless start, rear parking cameras, speed dependent steering and Bluetooth connectivity. For cost reduction some of the features may be compromised, but not the safety features.
About engines
The home developed 2.0L diesel engines called Ingenium are expected in the Indian models. The petrol variants may have a 3.0L Ford developed engine. Good mileages are expected as the engines are light.
Test drive reports
The reports coming after the test drive of the road models of the XE are promising. The XE S petrol variant has a 3L turbocharged engine producing 343 bhp and 450 NM torque. The car takes 4.9 sec to accelerate from 0 to 100 kmph and the top speeds are 250 kmph. The suspension system has 3 modes; the comfort, the sport and the adaptive. In the adaptive mode the power is distributed to the wheels depending on the load. The steering is smooth even though the system uses electric power instead of hydraulic.
