3 Budget Vacuum Cleaners That Perform Just as Well as More Expensive Models

If you are in the market for a new vacuum, you may be thinking that the logical choice is to invest in an expensive model. After all, you get what you pay for, right? Not so fast! While this may have been the case 20 years ago, times have changed for the better. Before you spring for the vacuum with the higher price tag, first ask yourself: is it really necessary?  Most likely, the answer is no.

At it’s core, your vacuum is designed to lift & suck filth from your floors & stairs. This is a task that the budget vacuum can handle just as well as their pricier counterparts. So if this is true, then why do some vacuums cost more than others? Costlier models are often (but not always!) made with higher-quality, longer-lasting materials; however, other factors, like colour, location of the manufacturer, physical shape, included accessories, & extended warranties contribute to a model’s heftier price, too.

Realistically, your vacuum does not need 100 attachments, an eye-catching outer shell, & a badge that says “made in the USA” to be effective. It merely needs to be able to suck up forgotten cheerios’ from underneath your refrigerator, remove globs of pet hair from your carpet, & lift the dirt   off of your stairs. Of course, some accessories are useful, & budget models do offer the essentials (dirt-loosening turbo brushes, crevice tools, extension wands, etc.).

If the warranty aspect seems like a reason to pay more money, consider this: most warranties are written with clauses that protect against claims that originate from “user-error.”  For example, if you accidentally damage your vacuum by using it to consume something that causes it harm, the manufacturer may deny your claim. By opting for a budget vacuum, you don’t need to worry as much about “protecting your investment.”

As long as you change the vacuum’s bags or filters regularly, you will keep it in good working condition for a while. And if you do absorb something that causes irreparable damage, then just buy another budget vacuum.

Above all else, buyers tend to pay for brand names that they can trust. Just as you might reach for Listerine over the store-brand mouthwash, (even though the ingredients are likely identical) so, too, would you rather spend your hard-earned cash on a brand that has made a name for itself, right? Luckily, there are reputable brands that offer models in this price class. Here are 3 of our favourites:

Shark Navigator Lift-Away Professional

This upright vac doubles as a portable canister with the click of a button. It is equipped with a brush roll shut-off trigger that allows you to switch seamlessly from carpet to hardwood floors. Designed to combat allergens, this model uses a HEPA filter that traps 99.9% of dust & allergens. Crevice tools & a dusting brush come as standard.

Hoover Linx Cordless Stick

The lightest of the 3, this featherweight stick vac comes in at 10 lb. The cordless design offers supreme portability & storability without sacrificing suction power. The canister is clear, which shows you exactly what you are picking up from your floors.

Bissell 9595A

This corded, lightweight vac uses a multi-cyclonic system that sucks dust & debris into separate sections of it’s washable filter. This model features “one pass” technology: powerful suction ensures that you capture surface filth on the first pass.
