To develop iPhone apps, you will need to get yourself a Mac with minimum processor of Mac OS X version 10.8 or later. If you want to use a PC try to get at least get a Mac Mini. It should be enough for the IOS development tool to runs smoothly.

2. Register an Apple Developer Account

Make sure you register an Apple developer account. Everyone can register as a developer because it is free. The registration process is very simple. Just go to the Apple’s developer website, create an Apple ID and fill in your personal profile. After you registered the developer account, you are allowed to download Xcode, access documentation of the IOS and other technical resources.

3. Install Xcode

To begin yourself as the iPhone developer to develop iPhone and iPad apps, Xcode is the software for you need to download. Xcode is an integrated development environment (IDE) which provided by Apple. It provides everything you need for you to start developing your apps. It also contains the latest iOS SDK, a built-in source code editor, graphic user interface editor, debugging tools and others. Moreover, it comes with an iPhone simulator for you to test your app without having an actual device.

All you have to do is launch Mac App Store and your Mac and start downloading the Xcode software. If you can’t, you may have to upgrade your OS as it needs the latest OS in order for it to work.

4. Enroll in iOS Developer Program (Optional)

When it comes to developing an iOS app, the common question asked is whether you need to enroll in the iOS Developer Program. The answer would be ‘optional’. This is because, the Xcode already includes with a built-in iPhones and iPads simulator which iPhone app developers use to develop and test out the apps on your Mac. However, if you don’t join the iOS developer program, the simulator can only run your apps and can’t be tested in your device. In other words, you’re not permitted to submit your app to Apps Store and you can’t sell them. So the only way for you to use the apps on your iPhone is by joining the iOS developer program.

So should you enroll in the program now? The iOS Developer Program costs US$99 per year. If you’re a new comer and just start exploring iOS development, you can rely on the simulator to test out your app first. You can wait until you have a solid plan to distribute your apps on App Store before enrolling in the program.
